CCA has a broad range of computer labs, lab classrooms, and casual–use computer stations outfitted to serve the college's varied curriculum at both the San Francisco and Oakland Campuses.

 

Image Digitization and Editing Resources

Equipment and software vaires by Computer Lab but all computer workstations have this general hardware configuration:

Evernote

Evernote

Evernote is a popular note taking tool, but it does much more. Evernote lets you collect web clipping, create "to do" lists & reminders, share notes, and collaborate with others. It's very flexible and makes your notes available everywhere (with apps for your computer, phone, and web browser).

Image Editing Resources

Online Image Editing Tools

Edit your photos or create new images using these web-based tools. No downloads necessary.

  • FotoFlexer: Basic editing functions like retouch, crop, resize, and special effects like added animations or text. Source images from picasa, flickr, upload.
  • Pixlr: 
Advanced photo editing and image creation tools. Many similarities to Photoshop. Open images from your computer or URL. Pixlr Express for basic edits. Firefox addon. No registration required.
  • Sumo Paint
: Advanced photo editing and image creation tools. Many similarities to Photoshop. Pro version available for a fee.

Presentation Resources

Online Presentation and Viewing Tools

Web-based presentation tools that work well with images, and viewing tools for images and multimedia.

  • Prezi
: 
Non-linear whiteboard style presentation tool with zoom, pan, draw, and rotate features. Imbed images and video easily. Download completed presentations or publish and share.
  • Zoho Show
: Powerpoint-like presentation application. Add images from your Flickr or Picasa account, or your computer. Export, publish, embed, remote live presentation, and share options.
  • SlideRocket
: Crisp design elements. Integrated image, video, sound, and web 2.0 tools. Collaborative editing and sharing capabilities. Download options with subscription only.
  • Google Docs Presentations
: 
Basic presentation tool. Integrated with other Google docs features. Share, download, embed.

 

Presentation Software at CCA Labs

Computer Lab workstations are equiped with:

VoiceThread is a web-based application that enables instructors and students to upload images, video, or documents and then record and add audio, video, or text comments. Comments create a timeline for each frame which becomes an engaging asynchronous conversation. It's perfect for peer interaction, collaborative projects, iterative online critiques, or "flipping" your classroom!

Image Storing and Sharing

Online Image Storage and Sharing

The following sites offer free image storage space for users, and a range of functions that allow you to share, tag, and manage your personal image collections.

Please note that these sites only allow users to upload content they have created (your own photographs or image products). Images scanned from books, downloaded from the web or databases, or acquired from other sources, should not be uploaded into image sharing sites.

 

  • Expono
: 
Unlimited storage and photos stored in original size and format. Advanced privacy settings, geotagging, integrated pixlr editing tools.
  • Flickr
: 
Includes content from individuals and institutions, including the Library of Congress, Smithsonian, and New York Public Library. Tag and share photos. Assign Creative Commons licenses to your work so others know how to use and cite it. Extensive app garden and integration into web utilities.
  • Photobucket: 
Unlimited storage, with some restrictions. Images resized on upload. Tag and share. Integrated editing and slideshow tools.
  • Picasa: 
Upload photos, create albums, annotate and share. Integrated Picasa image editing tools. Google product.

Lynda.com Mobile App

Lynda.com training videos are available to current CCA students, faculty, and staff through a campus license. This includes using Lynda.com in your mobile browser, and using the iOS / Android app.

         

 

On your mobile browser

If you are using a mobile device that does not use Android or iOS, or do not want to download the app, you can access Lynda.com through your mobile web browser.

NOTE: Firefox for Android does not work with lynda.com. If you are using an Android device, you should access lynda.com through Google Chrome, or download the Lynda app from the Play Store.

 

       


Eductional Technology Services (ETS) also offers the Lynda.com Online Training Library (OTL) to all current faculty, students and staff.

This library includes over 820 online courses and 42,000 tutorials covering numerous titles including Microsoft Office, Adobe CS, Apple software and our course management system, Moodle. Our subscription to the Lynda.com OTL service is accessible via the web from any computer, on- or off-campus.
