Local Research (SF & Oakland)

A guide to researching local history, architecture, and urban spaces.

Public Library Resources

The San Francisco Public Library (SFPL) and the Oakland Public Library (OPL) have great resources for local research. Anyone with a valid California ID is eligible to get a library card for either library system. SFPL and OPL library accounts allow users to check out library books and access online databases remotely.

The San Francisco Public Library provides online access to current and historic issues of the San Franicsco Chronicle and Oakland Tribune. SFPL account required for access.
